I have finished my sweater this week that I was knitting out of Mountain Meadow Wool - this is from Buffalo, WY and made from Wyoming sheep. The sweater is beautiful (if I don't say so myself) with cables and lots of texture. I really wanted to have this done before I go on my big adventure this coming week. I am flying to Portland to visit my mom for a couple of days and then she is driving me to Seattle for a business conference with other yarn shop owners. I have been waiting for this conference for a whole year!! One of the best things will be at the opening cocktail party - Debbie Macomber will be attending!! She actually owns a yarn shop in the Seattle area and will be introducing a line of yarn in June. There will lots of other little adventures that happen during the conference as well. I will let you all know how it goes!!
Have a great week!
march 6 - cross stitch - post 1
I got the blog all updated Monday morning with all the new items and then, bang, the UPS man showed up. I knew I was in trouble when he put his cart in the doorway of the truck! 9 boxes. 4 boxes of yarn weighed in at over 125 lbs. It didn't stop there. He showed up every day this week with at least one box. And, the FedEx guy was here a couple of times as well. So, there are lots of new items to share with you this week...

I am going to post these in 2 posts again this week, since there is so much new stuff.
I have been blessed to have a couple of my items shown at the Nashville Market that I attended a couple of weeks ago. I have taken some cross stitch charts and added Just Another Button Company button as embellishments. I took pictures and shared them withe the girls at JABCo. They were thrilled and made button packs to go with my models. I just finished a new one that I added buttons to also - Bent Creek's Shamrock Row. It is so much fun to add the embellishments and have them made into button packs for other shop owners to use. Watch for others that I am working on....
This will be continued on post 2.

I think I survived the Super Bowl Sale yesterday. Not sure about Connie and Suzy however. We all worked really hard and it was a great day. I hope that everyone that attended had a good time and like their purchases. I know it is going to take me some time to put the shop back together after all the craziness! Thanks to everyone that came shopping! Last week was a wild week! It started Monday morning with a phone call from the radio station that I listen to that I had won a weekend trip to Moab Utah! Not sure when I am going or who I am taking with me but it should be a great time! Friday night I went to see "The Book of Eli". It started out a little slow, kind of bloody, but the ending was great. I didn't see it coming, but it was worth the evening! I highly recommend it.

Whoa! Where did January go??? The boxes are arriving from market - but they have disappeared to the basement to be retreived later in February for the Pajama Party! Lots of boxes..... Quiet week around here. I had made some arrangements with an electrician to put in a new light fixture. He assured me that he would be here on Thursday. So, I had to clean out the closet in the classroom so they had access to the attic. Out came all the stuff (read junk) from the closet into the classroom. No electrician. Friday I called and he has no assured me that he will be here on Monday. I have my finger crossed. I have a class Monday night and really need the space. The Friday afternoon group had to meet around all the crap! Don't you just love people that say they will be one place and then don't show up? It's the story of my life just about now. But on the other hand, the new light will be SO wonderful!! (I'll keep you posted!) New in the shop (that I can tell you about!)

A quiet week here with the threat of snow and cold again this weekend. Ahh, it is winter here in the west and the ice is almost melted... I have stitching and knitting like a mad fool. Stitching during the day when I get a minute and knitting in the evening. So many models to be made!! I have started the teaspoon series that is available from Just Another Button Co. The chart is free with the purchase of the buttons. I finished stitching the January teaspoon this week - it looks like a snow shovel! Then in the mail came the new series from Lizzie Kate - Green Flip-its - so now I have started that series as well. Knitting 2 sweaters, 1 hat, and a pair of socks. Never a dull moment!! A belated happy birthday to my darling daughter. She turned ?? on the 12th. (I can't possibly be old enough to have a daughter that old!!!)
I have just returned from the annual winter TNNA market in California (where it was 75 on the day that it was 2 here!) I tried not to rub in the fact that we spent the afternoon of our meeting sitting in the sunshine with our shoes and socks off and sleeves rolled up while everyone back home was shivering in the cold and wind. I sat in on some very productive meetings while I was there. Sometimes when we leave the meetings we wonder if we really accomplished anything, but I do believe that this time we did. I took some classes – one on needlepoint (a very cute Santa stocking) and one on yarn dyeing (made a great skein of sock yarn in fabulous colors!) And then there was the market. I honestly do not think that I saw everything that was there. I would start at one end of the convention center and really try to walk down every isle, but I would get side tracked and end up some place so not where I was intending on going. Some things I wandered past several times and some places I did not see at all. But, the good news (or bad news) is that there are lots of really wonderful new things coming. This was not a market to find counted cross stitch. This was a yarn and needlepoint market. So, there are lots of wonderful new yarns coming. At one point on Sunday afternoon I stopped and contemplated how I was possible going to get all the new models knitted up for all the new yarns that I had ordered – and then I promptly went and ordered more! I did get to test drive some new lamps from Daylight (actual prototypes that aren’t on the market yet) and a new kind of floss from Weeks Dye Works. Because the yarn industry is so fickle, everything will not arrive at once (good for my budget), but will be coming in over the next couple of months. Stay tuned to find out what wonderful things are arriving. I do have to tell you about the hotel that I stayed at in California. It was The Varden – A Boutique Hotel. (www.thevardenhotel.com) In a word it was – unique. I was rooming with a friend from Stitches N Things in Fenton, Michigan – Deb Koch. She arrived at the hotel before I did and when I texted her that I was on the way and had she made it to the hotel, the text I received back simply said “OMG six by six feet”. She wasn’t far off. If you slid off the end of the bed, it was 2 steps to the toilet. We couldn’t leave our suitcases open, there wasn’t room. The shower was about 2 ½ of my feet (I wear a size 6 ½ shoe) in diameter. The sink in the bathroom was sideways and there was a glass shelf above the sink that you had to lean under to brush your teeth. The bed was very comfortable and Deb and I managed quite nicely in the room. It was 4 blocks from the convention center so we had a great walk every morning and evening. There were lots of restaurants and shops along the way – including a Starbucks so we could get our chai tea fix every morning. We ate at some really fun restaurants near the pier, went to the Queen Mary and had dinner one evening, and I bought some really fun purple shoes! (Not sure why I had to have those shoes since everyone knows I walk around here without shoes all the time!) It was a great trip – I didn’t want to come home.
New things that have come in during the past week - cross stitch - Cross Stitch & Needlework - March 2010 Sampler & Antique Needlework Quarterly - Spring 2010 Mill Hill Buttons & Beads - Handbag, High Heel, Ice Cream Shoppe, Hydrangea Wreath, Conch Shell, Nautilus Shell Mill Hill pins - Pink Sneaker, Lucky Day, Goldie Finch, Coin Purse, Flamingo, Shades

Happy New Year!!!! I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Mine was very quiet. I didn't even get out of my pajamas the whole day. I got lots of cleaning done and I didn't even open any presents! Tom, Jennifer and the kids were supposed to drive over from Lincoln on Saturday, but because of the weather and the roads being closed they didn't get to come until Sunday - and then it took them 9 hours to get here! They were very glad to finally get here and get out of the car! They left yesterday. Way to short of a visit. Heather and CJ are so cute. Heather kept the Tuesday night group very entertained! She had a captive audience and didn't want to let it go.

I have been very remiss in posting lately. Sorry. I couldn't post last weekend because I was out of town and I couldn't post the weekend before because I was getting ready to go out of town. Sounds lame. Last week I traveled to Portland, Oregon to visit my mom and go to my sister's surprise birthday party. Not only did we surprise my sister, but I also surprised my mom. Jennifer, Heather, and CJ met me in Denver and traveled with me to Portland. My mom was very surprised. Topped only by the surprise to my sister. It was a great weekend! We went to the Oregon coast and picked up seashells (and had Tillamook ice cream!!). We went to the Oregon Zoo. We really needed more time. I also got to meet my new grandniece. So, now I am back to reality and have to hurry to get caught up. It's always like that when I go away. The girls (Marsha and SuZy do a great job on the selling end), but there is all the other stuff that doesn't get done when I am not here on a daily basis that has to be done before hand and when I return. Not complaining. So, there is a LONG list of new items.... cross stitch - Shepherd's Bush - Jeffrey's Stocking, Holy Night, Holly & Ivy Sampler, Scardy Sheep Fob, Spooky Night, Halloween Grins Victoria's Sampler - Gingerbread House Raise the Roof - Home for Christmas, Trees for Sale (parts 1 & 2 of Christmasland Series) Country Cottage Needleworks - Frosty Couple (#4 of Winter Wonderland Series), Frosty Pink House (#5 of Winter Wonderland Series), Pie Menu Just Nan - Christmas Cheer (2009 ornament), Noella's Christmas Berry Mirabilia - Day Nymph, Night Nymph John Clayton - Harbour Reflections Nordic Needle - Stitcher's Choice Bookmarks I, Stitcher's Choice Bookmarks 2 Peter Underhill - Home Is Where the Cat Is, Home For Christmas JBW - French Country Wreath, Twas the Night Ornaments, French Country Turkey Bent Creek - The Little Scarecrow, Autumn Bliss, Twelve Days of Christmas Little House Needleworks - The Library Waxing Moon - Quick Stitches for Halloween, Monthly Sampler - May Sekas & Co - Winter Pines Heart, Winter Log Cabin Quilt, Square Winter Fingertip Towels Val's Stuff - Just A Little Spooked, Halloween Teenies, Christmas Snowman, Uber Jack Imaginating - Have No Fun, Autumn Cottage, Peaches Kitten, Pumpkin Boo, Halloween Night, In Everything Give Thanks Workbasket - Les Petites , Barn Dance, Little Seasons, Quaker Acorn & Squirrel, Autumn House Nora Corbett - Letters From Nora S, Letters From Nora T, Letters From Nora U Carolyn Manning - Little Snowballz Felix, Little Snowballz Oracle SamSarah Designs - Bounty

I think that's it. I'm sure I have missed something. Christmas is coming - 65 days. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but someone has to. Are you ready? There are lots of last minute items that you could do. Have a great week. I will try to post more often. Promise.
october 3 - market news
It has been a wild couple of weeks! After I posted the last article I went and bought a new car! There was nothing wrong with my old car - it was small and low to the ground and everyone hated getting into it. I bought a Kia Rondo, which is the kind of car that I had driven the day before when we went to Mountain Meadow Wool in Buffalo. It is much roomier and I can get a lot more "stuff" in it. Tom and I traveled to St. Louis for market. Market was actually in St. Charles (a suburb). Fun town. It is always so much fun going to market. Not only do I get to buy all the latest and greatest things, but I also get to see the other shop owners that I have becomre friends with over the years. It is always a time to catch up on everyone's lives. I also had a really great meeting with the gal that is chair of the TNNA Retail Council. september 19
What a beautiful weekend we are having for late fall. The weather is just about perfect!! (It's not going to last - sorry to burst your bubble) A group of us drove to Buffalo, Wyoming yesterday to tour the Mountain Meadow Wool mill. What a great trip. MMW is taking the raw wool from Wyoming sheep, processing it into yarn, and giving 10% of the proceeds back to the ranchers. This is much more than they could have made by selling the raw wool outright. They are a very green company and are using every scrap of wool and all byproducts for other uses. They (and I) currently sell 4 weights of yarn in a natural color only. They are working with other dyers in the hopes of adding colored yarns to their line. We had a really good time and many of the girls are talking about the next time we go. There will not be a post next weekend as I am leaving Thursday for the needlework market in St Charles, MO. The pajama party is scheduled for Friday, Oct 2 and there are still 2 or 3 spaces available, so if you are thinking about it and haven't committed yet, please give me a call and get your name on the list before it is too late. The fall open house will be Saturday, Oct 3 to view all the new items from market. It has been a very slow week in the "new" category - nothing. Everyone is waiting for the market to release all their new things so the list will be long when I return. On a side note... I am about to do something really scary for me. I hope I have the courage to do it. I'll let you all in on it after it happens!! Have a great couple of weeks!
september 12
We have survived past another year on the attacks on this country. God Bless America! It was very sobering to see the replay of 2001 yesterday on the TV. It reminded me so much of the patriotism we all felt on that day and the days to follow. Let us never forget!! I had a great weekend last weekend in Lincoln. We went to the Nebraska State Fair so Heather could ride on the kiddie rides (CJ was unimpressed - he and I wandered down to view the needlework exhibits and he didn't mind one bit if Grandma took time to look!) We went to the Lincoln Children's Zoo. Heather just loves that place! We went to the park (more than once). It was generally a relaxing weekend. Tom and I went to the Rockies game Wednesday night. Yeah Rockies!! (thanks Suzy for the tickets - we had a great time) The Rockies seem to be the cardiac kids lately - waiting until the 9th inning to win the game! The trip to Mountain Meadow Wool in Buffalo next Friday is gaining some momentum. If you are interested in attending, please let me know by Monday so I can get the transportation arranged. We have made plans to eat lunch at a cafe in Buffalo and a lady from Pittsburg is going to be joining us there! It should be a lot of fun.

Also wanted to make sure that everyone knows about our planned trip to Mountain Meadow Wool in Buffalo on September 18. We will leave here about 8 a.m. and return about 7 p.m. We will tour the processing plant in Buffalo. Cost will be determined by how many people go with us. Let me know by September 14 if you are interested in going. It should be fun!!

I have a really good excuse for not posting over the weekend - I was out of town. We left early Saturday morning and went to Tom's cabin in the Medicine Bow Forest. Cabin is a fairly loose term - the building is 12' x 15'. It was really fun though. All 3 of Tom's kids were there and we rode the 4 wheeler, ran the dogs and ate. The weather was beautiful. The kids left about 4 and Tom and I spent the night. Yesterday morning he had a guy from Rawlins come in and cut the dead trees down on the property. We stayed and watched him cut about 10 of them down before we left. It will look entirely different with all the trees down. The beetle kill is amazing. It is very sad that so many trees have died due to that little beetle. This was the first time (and probably last) I had been up there this year. It is so peaceful in the mountains. I really miss not being able to go more often. I'm not sure if there will be a post next weekend or not. I am leaving early Friday morning and heading east to Lincoln to see the kids! Yeah - Grandma time!! A few new things in this past week - cross stitch - Bent Creek - The Kitty Kitty (#4 in the Branch series) Just Nan - Over the Top Spooky Tin, Counting Bats Stoney Creek - Christmas Sampler, Santa Plate 09, 12 Days of Christmas, Halloween Tricks & Treats Cross Stitch & Needlework - Nov 09

It was another wild week here. A very dear old friend was in town and I got to go to a picnic in her honor on Wednesday evening. It was great to see her. Friday evening was Stitch N Pitch with the Colorado Rockies, so I closed early and went to the baseball game. We lost. The game wasn't great but it was lots of fun. I saw Dana, my very young yarn shop owner friend from Denver, and lots of folks that I only get to see every once in a while. Nancy and Lou (Tom's brother) went with me to the game. Lou's wife has alzheimer's and is in a nursing home. She is only 58. It is a very sad situation so it was kind of fun for Lou to get out. He is a big Rockies fan. He had a great time, so that is all that mattered. I finished my project that I was all into last weekend and also got CJ's Christmas stocking stitched this week. I also started an afghan for my nephew's baby that is due in about 3 weeks. Some fun new stuff in this week: cross stitch - John Clayton - Paso Doble, Argentine Tango, Bonnie Prince Charlie's Monument Peter Underhill - Haggis Hunting Cat's Rule Mirabilia - Shakespeare's Fairies Prairie Schoolar - Fall Fields, Christmas Eve, Holly Days, Boo to You, 2009 Santa Stoney Creek Magazine - October 2009 Lizzie Kate - Tiny Tidings XIV, I'll Get My Elves on That, It's a Jingle Out There, Sampling Christmas, You Can Touch the Dust, Christmas Double Flip-it RIST, Christmas Double Flip-it TMAS new fabric - 14 ct jubilation, lugana blue dynasty, cashel blush

august 17
OK - sorry about not posting over the weekend. No excuse, just lazy. Actually I am involved in a cross stitch project and just about can't put it down. Don't know why I am so possessed on this particular project, but I am. I acutally started this thing over a year ago - got 2 words stitched and then put it aside. I found it the other day and now I can't put it down. I have about 2 hours left on it to have it finished - it is amazing what happens when it isn't laying in a bag by my chair!! The weather has turned - I heard this morning that we are about a month ahead of schedule with the weather - does that mean it will be snowing next week????? Tom did have snow at his cabin this weekend! I sent out a newsletter on Friday. I know several people were having trouble with their email at that time, so if you didn't receive it, please let me know and I will resend it to you. I tried to resend to those it was returned from this morning so hopefully it went through the second time. I am having trouble with my telephone. Since Friday afternoon I have had no phone service in the shop, so if you tried to call and got a busy signal I am not really on the phone. I called the phone company on Saturday and still this morning nothing. I will call again. It is very frustrating. Not a lot new this past week. cross stitch - Just Cross Stitch - Sept/Oct 2009 (Halloween ornament issue) Country Cottage Needleworks - Christmas Tree (#3 of 5 in the Winter Wonderland Series)

Greetings! After spending almost every waking moment for the past week at the fair, I am almost ready for it to be over. One more day. It has been great fun spending the week at the fair. I have seen lots of customers (that havent't been in for a while) and many old friends that I haven't seen in ages. I really appreciate Cathy coming out and spending most of her week with me also. It has been a help just to have someone to talk to and to be able to leave the booth to go to the bathroom. THANKS CATHY!!!! I also want to thank Lorelee for stepping in at the shop when Marsha got so ill this week. We wish Marsha a speedy recovery and we really hope they can figure out what is causing her intense pain really soon. The pain can be very wearing on a body. August 1
Welcome to August!! How did it become August already? Didn't summer just start?? It has been a wild week. The shop hop has ended. It is always so great to see all the customers from Colorado come up to visit. (I just keep reminding them that they could come up more than once a year!) I helped with the Hofer funeral dinner yesterday. Such a needless tradegy. That little boy will be missed by his grandma. She loved him so much. Had a bit of a problem yesterday when I went to change the tape in the cash register. The new tape REFUSED to go in. I had to do all the transactions by hand. Boy, did I miss electronics!!! I do have an extra cash register in the garage that I use when I do special events, so I will need to get it inside, get it dusted off, and get it programmed so I am ready to do business today. Tomorrow I travel to Longmont to finish up the shop hop with the drawing for the grand prize, evaluate this years event and start planning for next year. Then, it's back to Cheyenne to start moving stuff out to the exhibition hall at the fairgrounds, which will be my home away from home for the next week. I am doing a booth out at the fair (and I have been assured that it is close to the open class needlework area), so stop by for a visit. I will have items for sale, I will be doing some demonstrations, and I will be doing some teaching. Bring your cross stitch or knitting or whatever and stop by for a chat and some time to work. Our Tuesday evening group will be meeting out there from 7 - 9 and everyone is encouraged to stop by for a visit. Some new things this week - cross stitch - A Cross Stitch Christmas (hardback book) yarn - Tahki Stacy Charles - Modern Baby, Modern Romance In the Summer Shade - (lace shawl pattern) Knit Edgings and Trims New Twists on Twined Knitting Knits From the North Sea Australian Knitting - Winter 09

july 26
Wow, what a week this has been. It started with water. I have been having some water issues in my basement. The first time I noticed it was in June, right after I got home from Lincoln. Next to the shower it looked like my wall was "sliding". It kept getting worse. First it was just 1 place, then 2, then 3, then 4. Then I had water all over the laundry room and the furnace room. It just kept happening. Everyone blamed the toilet. I called the plumber. They couldn't come out for 5 days. More water everywhere. I finally put a notice on the bathroom door that it was "out of order". More water. Wasn't the toilet. Turns out the water faucet outside had sprung a leak and every time I watered outside, I was flooding inside. So much fun. It is now fixed and I am still in the process of drying out. Sure is a good thing we had so much rain in June that I didn't have to water outside much. I guess the problem was that I was gone so much in June I couldn't pin the problem down. It just kept getting worse each time I was gone and I didn't know where it was coming from. Problem solved though. Suzy and I went to the Colorado Rockies baseball game on Monday evening. Great game. Had fun. Bad drive home. It starting RAINING just after we got to the car. Big rain. Lots of rain. We had to pull over twice because it was raining so hard we couldn't see the road. At one point I said "I hope you can see because I can't!) We got just north of Fort Collins and it STOPPED. Like a curtain. Rain/no rain. Weird. I hope everyone had a great Frontier Days. At least the rain held off until the very end. The cross stitch shop hop is winding down. Only 5 days left. If you are planning on doing any "hopping" you had better get hopping!!

Here I am again this week! I told you that I was going to try to back on a regular schedule and hopefully we have all the problems with the post disappearing behind us. Thanks again to all of you that told me of the problem and I'm sorry that I didn't believe you when you first told me. I am a little thick headed sometimes. It took the second person to tell me before I really looked into it. Please forgive me. Frontier Days is upon us and the first parade is today. Please be careful driving around town with all the extra folks in town. (And please be pleasant to all the out-of-towners - we would like them to come back!) july 15
Well, hopefully this will work. I have 2 posts in the past 2 weeks and apparently they have not posted. I talked with the website guy and he seems to think that what ever was wrong is now fixed. So, I will attempt to let you know what has been going on over the past month. Suzy and I went to Boise. We loaded up the rented cargo van on Tuesday morning and headed out. We stopped in Ogden, Utah and spent the night. While we were in Ogden we went to Shepherd's Bush and spent some time with Terri and Tina. We had dinner at the train depot and looked at all the old trains, including the one that carried the Olympic flame for the Winter Olympics that were held in Utah a few years ago. We headed out the next morning for Boise and when we arrived at the hotel we were directed to the loading dock to unload the van. Someone would be "right down" to help us. Well, after 45 minutes of 100 degrees at the loading dock with the smoking area and the dumpster Suzy went looking for our contact person. Things kind of went down hill after that. My sales expectations were not met, but when you consider that attendance was down over 25%, I did really well. We did have some fun in the evenings with my mom, her cousin, and my sister that had driven over from Oregon to help me out. We had dinner at the Melting Pot and my mom actually climbed on the table to get to the chocolate! It was great fun. We incurred an exceptionally long day on the way back as we drove the entire way in one day. Gladys (the garmin) directed us the long way (but it was beautiful scenery!) so it was a 12 hours drive. Exhausted but glad to be home. My kids came to visit over the 4th of July and even though I had told CJ not to grow when I left him in June, he hadn't listened. He is growing like a weed! Very handsome too! I had a long list for my son-in-law to do, so we spent most of the weekend working on my list. He actually got through the whole list, but I don't think it is going to take him 1 1/2 years to come back to visit! If he came more often the list wouldn't get as long. THANK YOU TOM!!! I really appreciate his hard work. The yard looks great! Frontier Days is almost upon us and the shop hop is in full swing. I sent out a newsletter last week with lots of happenings in the shop, so if you didn't get it, please let me know and I will add you to the list. The bead trunk show is still here and I will actually have it longer than I thought I would. I will probably be packing it up late next week. Tons of great stuff. So, new in the past couple of weeks (the first missing post is just gone - sorry): cross stitch - Kustom Krafts - Holiday Penguin, Bald Eagle, Playful Leopards, White Light, Kitty Bench Warmers, Pansy Party, Finding Refuge, Sacred Sanctuary M Designs - Angel of Joy Ornament, Angel of Love Ornament, Angel of Faith Ornament, Angel of Peace Ornament Imaginating - Star Welcome, The Earth Laughs, Cottage Cat, Tweet Home, Dieting Silver Lining - The Midnight Collection "Classic Pride" Bent Creek - Uber Flag SamSarah Designs - Summer Camp Little House Needleworks - Two Roosters, Love One Another Carolyn Manning Designs - Little Snowballz Catherine Sue Hillis Designs - Santa's Magic Key, Pirate Queen, Santa's Christmas List Mill Hill (Jim Shore) - Santa Claus, Saint Nicholas, Kris Kringle, Father Christmas Shepherd's Bush - Busy Bee, Remember, Thanks A Lot, Finch Song, and the snowman charm for the ornament magazine design

And Happy Frontier Days!!
june 19
I'm not sure where to begin on the story of the past 2 weeks. It has been an exhilarating couple of weeks! I spent 6 days in Columbus at the TNNA (The National Needlearts Association) summer trade show. I went to meetings, took classes, and spent money. (I'm really good at that!) I spent a lot of time networking (aka talking or bull....ing) with lots of people in the industry. In fact I spent so much time networking that I almost didn't get all my buying done. It was a very productive week in my world. It was good to get home, but I was exhausted. And now, I am getting things ready to leave again. On Tuesday, SuZy and I leave for Boise, ID to attend the Embroiderers' Guild of America Rocky Mountain Region annual seminar. I am taking things from the shop for a boutique. I spent a lot of time in Columbus finding new and wonderful things to take with me. This will be the 3rd time for doing the boutique and it is always a lot of fun. I get to see people that I only get to see every couple of years and renew friendships. It will also be great because my mom and sister will also be there helping me out in the boutique. Tomorrow is World Wide Knit in Public Day and we are celebrating here at Ewe Count. We are meeting at the Starbucks on Central at 8, moving to the shop at 9:30 or so, and then maybe doing dinner. It's all about getting knitting out in the public. Stuff that I ordered at market is already arriving in the shop and will continue to do so over the next couple of months. I extended some stuff out to arrive later in the summer so it wouldn't all be here at once.
So... new stuff in the past couple of weeks:

I hope you get a chance to stop by for Knit in Public Day. It should be lots of fun. We will work on our portion of the world's longest scarf, have some food and some great knitting.
There will be no post again next week since I will be out of town again (a reaccurring thing lately - but this is the last trip until September). Have a great couple of weeks. Happy Father's Day to you that are fathers.

Boy, do I wish I were where I was last week at this time. Holding a baby! I had a great time playing Grandma. I took Heather to the park and the movie. We had her first dance recital (cute!) and her family birthday party. And I held the baby. Oh, and did I mention that I held the baby? CJ is a very "handsome man". I decided that he couldn't be "cute" because he is a boy. I changed lots of diapers and, no, I didn't get peed on. He's a very good boy. I have pictures. Just ask!
I sent out a email newsletter earlier this week, if you did not get it, please let me know and I will add you to my list.
I am getting ready to leave again. I leave on Wednesday to attend TNNA summer market in Columbus, Ohio. Marsha will be in charge of the shop this week. If there is anything that you would like me to look for, please let me know by Tuesday.

I hope that everyone had a great 3 day weekend. I really enjoyed my extra day off - I got the lawn mowed, flowers planted, house and shop cleaned, and lots of paperwork caught up. Really a day off!! This is the start of my 5 weeks of hell. I am leaving on Thursday to go to Lincoln. I am itching to get my hands on that little baby (everyone is doing great!) and Heather has her first dance recital and we are celebrating her birthday (a little late). I get back on Tuesday. Just in time to have the traveling shawl here to get my 6 rows knitted (more about this later) and get the shop hop design stitched up. I leave again the following Wednesday (10th) for Columbus, Ohio for the TNNA market where I have meetings and classes and market. I get back on the 16th. Just in time to regroup and get things together to go to Boise, Idaho on the 23rd to set up a boutique for the Rocky Mountain Region Embroiderers' Guild annual seminar. I get back from that trip on the 29th. Just in time to have the shop hop start on July 1. It will be a schedule that will not be repeated. I will post when I am able.

BOY oh boy!!
I knew there was a reason I didn't do this post on Saturday! This morning at 8:08 (ct) Charles James (CJ) Smith was born! We weighed in at 6 lbs 14 oz and was 19 1/2" long. Mom, Dad, sister Heather and baby are all doing fine. Now Grandma Penny just has to wait until next Thursday to see this fine little guy. (It's going to be a long 10 days!)
We seem to have beautiful weather and my lawn finally got mowed yesterday morning. I also got dirt in the hole in the front. Maybe in the coming week or so I will have time to get something planted in there now! I had better get it done soon so it has time to grow!

Happy Mother's Day! OK - I am late again this week, but I have a good excuse this time! I spent yesterday in Laramie at the University of Wyoming graduation. Tom's daughter, Desiree, graduated with a degree in marketing and public relations. The really good news is that she already got a job! She starts tomorrow as the assistant manager of Maurice's in Laramie. Probably not her dream job, but a job none the less! I sent out a newsletter earlier this week. Ok, I know this is late. No excuse. Just lazy. I had a bunch of things on my mind Saturday and couldn't get my head wrapped around any of them long enought to get anything done. I think it's better today. I hate days like that. It was kind of quiet in the shop and I had lots of things to do (still do!), but I just couldn't decide what I wanted to do. I started about 3 new projects, but it just wasn't what I wanted to do. I couldn't decide which project that was already in progress to work on. It was just a blah kind of day.
New in the shop this week -

april 25
Oh what a difference a week makes! Or does it? It is snowing again this morning after we had 70 degrees this week. At least all the snow from last week melted into the ground and the grass, trees, and plants are very thankful for the moisture. It was a pretty quiet week around here after all the excitement last week. No crazy people showed up that we had to call the police on at least! We had a great group join us Friday afternoon to knit and stitch for a couple of hours. If you are free on Friday afternoons from 1 - 3 please stop by and join us.

Ho! Ho! Ho! Oh, wait we just had the Easter Bunny. Where did all this snow come from???? It is so beautiful though and we really did need the moisture. It will be so messy though, about ...tomorrow or Wednesday (when it is 70!) What a week it was around here. First of all, thanks to everyone that came to the Stimulus Sale on Wednesday. It was great fun. A huge thanks to Cathy and Marsha for providing all the goodies - if you missed it, you missed lemon bars, gingerbread, orange balls, chocolate cookies, brownies, upside down cake, and I'm sure I'm missing something else. They were all great. It was quite a day, ending with the police. Now the story... it was a little after 7 and Marsha was here at the shop. In came a couple of other customers and then, her. I had never seen her before. She stopped just inside the door and I gave my usual greeting. She said she had been by several times and just wanted to see what it was all about. Then, everything became beautiful. All the yarn was beautiful, I was beautiful, the finished things were beautiful, the customers were beautiful, I was beautiful, the yarn was beautiful, we were all sisters, I was beautiful (oh, did I already mention that?), we were all beautiful. She wandered around for a while, all the while talking to herself. Marsha offered her some goodies and after some time decided to fix her a plate and maybe that would get her out sooner. After her being here for 45 minutes, Marsha went into the office and called the police. We finally got her back to the front of the shop, where she sat with another customer and they discussed country music (or not!) When the police showed up, he asked her if she had a place to go for the evening (the Lord will provide). He finally got her out of the shop and then to the parking lot. It was after 9:00 when they finally left. (We heard later that she entertained the police for most of the night!) What excitement!!

Happy Easter! (Happy Passover to my Jewish friends!) We missed out on Palm Sunday services at my church last Sunday because of the snow, so we had Palm Wednesday services! I also attended a very meaningful Seder Supper on Thursday evening. It just gives us a reminder of why we are on this earth and the great sacrifices that have come before us.
What a difference a week makes! All that snow from last weekend is gone, we have had a little more moisture during the week and more to come tomorrow. The Easter egg hunts may be a washout. All this moisture will be very welcome for the grass and flowers.
Don't forget about the "Stimulus Sale" to take place on Wednesday, April 15 from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. (extended hours!) At least 15% off everything in the shop, and yes that extends to phone in orders also. Some of the girls have planned refreshments for the evening, so stop by with your knitting or stitching and plan to spend some time (shopping and knitting/stitching!)
Did you see me on TV last night? It was a quick segment so if you blinked you probably missed it. Last Monday on the CBS Early show they showed a segment about how knitting was good to ward off dementia. The local TV station was contacted and they came out and did a piece on local knitting. Yeah us! If you want to see the whole Early show segment you can google "CBS Early Show Knitting for your health". It was a study done by the Mayo Clinic!
Also, I am participating in the online needlework show that runs from April 15 - April 20. You can log on to www.needleworkshow.com and view all the items. Contact me with the items that you would like and I will order them for you. This is like you getting to go to market!

Have a great week - it is Holy week.

What a wild weather week!! Blizzard/no blizzard, closed roads, snow, sunshine, closed schools. In all of this I did get to keep Jennifer and Heather for about 7 hours longer than they had planned due to the road being closed on Tuesday. We had a great visit. We had fun at Chuck E. Cheese on Sunday. I can't believe that the next time I will see them, I will have a new grandson. There was not a lot of new stuff this week.

Happy Spring! I hope you have been enjoying this beautiful spring weather. I have had the doors open and the wonderful warm air has filled the shop. Now, they say all that is going to change. Go figure. It's way to early for it to stay this nice. We really need the moisture! The Friday afternoon group is really getting off the ground. Yesterday we had 5 here. They really seem to be enjoying the time to get together during the day. I hope you will be able to join with us soon. We even had a small visitor to our group yesterday, with lots of pictures of Disneyland! Jennifer and Heather arrived here for a spring break visit just before everyone got here so everybody got to enjoy the pictures and autographs from Disneyland. Don't forget about the yarns that are on sale. I need to clear some things out to make room to put the new things up. Sitting in boxes doesn't make it easy to sell! New in this week -

march 14
Oh what a beautiful day! The weather is wonderful and only supposed to get better by the end of the week (the official start of spring!) I had a wonderful breakfast at church this morning. Our pastor and his wife cooked a Korean breakfast for the community. When I left, nearly 60 people had been served breakfast. It is a glorious day! Some fun things happened around here this week. You all remember last summer when I got a new water line and all the fun that created. Well, about a month or so later the gutter and curb near the location of where they put the new water line in started to sink. I really didn't think too much about it, but it was hard to put my trash can out, because it kept sinking. About a month ago I noticed that a large chunk of the gutter had broken apart. I called the city and asked whose responsibility it was to fix the gutter. The homeowner. (I wasn't pleased with that answer.) I told them that the problem had started soon after the water department had fixed my water line. Call the water department I was told. So I did. They said they would send someone out to look at it. Wednesday I saw that they had come out and put some orange cones in the hole. Thursday morning (early!) they were back and took out the damaged gutter and curb. Thursday afternoon the city came out and filled the hole and built up the curb. Yeah! Sometimes it does pay to complain! There are still some barricades in front of the shop, so I'm not sure if they are really done or not. Time will tell. There wasn't a lot of new items this week...
Just Cross Stitch - May/June 09 Sampler & Needlework Quarterly - Spring 09 Zweigart - Cats & Kittens 3 new colors of fabric

march 7
I sent out an e-newsletter this week, so if you didn't get it, please let me know and I will forward it to you. This has been a crazy week. A very dear person in the needlework industry had a brain anurism on Monday and passed away on Thursday morning. Kris Stott of Norden Crafts will be missed. Please pray for her husband Dave and the entire family. Dave & Kris were the guest speakers at our luncheon at the Nashville market, just a month ago. They are a fantastic couple and it is going to be very hard on Dave. Tomorrow I am going to a meeting in Greeley to start planning the shop hop for this year. We are a little behind in our power curve, but I have confidence that we will pull it all together and have another great shop hop. Watch for more details as the time gets closer to July. Well, last week we had no new cross stitch, only yarn and this week is entirely the opposite. No yarn, only cross stitch (and lots of it!)

Wow! Here I am - back on track! (At least I'm trying to get back on track.) I have been so busy trying to get things done around here. It seems like I can never get caught up. There have been some really fun new yarns and patterns come in lately - and I want to knit them all! But, I haven't done any cross stitch and my models are falling behind. I just have to put something down and work on something else. I have been invited to a wedding reception the first part of April and I have to get a gift done for them. I don't think it ever ends. My kids had a great time at Disneyland - and no, Heather did not want her "princess ears". You just can't second guess kids!! They got home yesterday and while I talked to Jennifer a couple of times while they were gone, I am dying to hear the whole story. Nothing new this week in the cross stitch line, but I must have had a REALLY good time buying yarn because it all showed up this week!
So... new this weeek --

Have a great week. Penny

OK, so I am late again. I really tried to get to this on Saturday, but somehow failed. I'm not really sure what happened, time just slipped away and I got busy doing something else. (Where does it go??) Isn't the weather beautiful? It was so nice Sunday afternoon I went for the first walk of the year. And it is supposed to be even better today! Then it's going to change. Imagine that.

That's it for this week. My kids are at Disneyland this week and I am anxious to find out how Heather liked it. She is such a little princess. They were even having dinner with "The Princesses" while they were there. I had seen some pink Disney ears with a tiara between the ears and sent her some money so she could have some. The comment I got was "I'll have to see them to decide if I want them." Wow. And she isn't even 4 yet!!! I did get one picture Sunday night after the first day. (No ears) We'll have to see!!! Have a great week. I'll try to do better next week (or the end of this week)
february 16 news
It seems like it has been a while since I posted here. I have been to Nashville, and had the pajama party. Nashville was fun. It is always good to see all my shop owner friends and meet with all the cross stitch designers. I miss them at the bigger markets. I took some classes while I was there - a counted needlepoint class from Debbie Rowley of DebBee's Designs, a needle felting class from Judy of Mosey N Me and an internet class. I did manage to get out of the hotel one evening to go to dinner with a bunch of friends. The pajama party was kind of quiet because of the weather. Some people were worried about driving and I don't blame them. Those of us that were here had a good time. As you can imagine, there is a LONG list of new things -

january 31 news
We got a good dose of snow this week and it wrecked havoc on our first class of the Design Your Own Sweater class/workshop/support group. It was just too nasty Monday night to get out and about. We have rescheduled the class for the 2nd Monday of February - the 9th. We had planned to have this class on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month anyway, so it just pushed the first class back a bit. The snow was absolutely beautiful though.
I have been moving yarn around this week. I finally had a chance to go through the inventory that was done at the end of the year and found that there were some yarns that had not sold well this past year, so it is time for them to be gone. The price on these items will be reduced for quick sale (To make room for the new things that should start arriving this week!)
Don't forget about the "Big Football Game that is trademarked Sale" tomorrow (February 1) from 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Tons of stuff at really reduced price and everything else in the shop is discounted. The only Sunday of the year that I am open. Take advantage of it.
I am leaving this week for the Nashville Needlework Market. This is the cash and carry show, so I will be bringing everything back in my suitcase. The pajama party is Friday, February 13 and it is then that we open the suitcases and the boxes that have arrived recently and view all the great new items available. If you can't make it Friday night all the items will be out on Saturday for the Spring Open House.
New this week:
cross stitch - Sweetheart Tree - April Diamond & Daisy, May Emerald & Lily of the Valley, June Pearl & Rose, "P" is for Princess, Lavender Blossoms Fob, Country French Heart, Lavender Blossoms Biscornu, American Star Biscornu
yarn - Vogue Knitting - Winter 08/09 A-Z of Knitting (soft back) Contemporary Crochet
That's about it for this week - no post next week since I will be out of town, but the one after that will have all the new items from the markets listed. If you are interested in coming to the pajama party, please let me know as soon as possible as space is limited. Have a great couple of weeks!
january 24
I sent out an email newsletter yesterday - please let me know if you didn't get it. It has lots of information about the upcoming events here in the shop. I had a great time in San Diego. The weather was perfect - 80 every day! Thursday, while we were in our TNNA Retail Council meeting we went outside to have lunch and ended up having the afternoon session of our meeting on the patio of the convention center, with the bay behind us. Boats were going out and coming in - it was beautiful. I think I ate fish almost every night I was there and I never put on more than a light sweater. Deb, my friend from Michigan and Dana, my roommate from Denver even went to SeaWorld on Monday (I was sure I was going to buy way too much if I stayed at market any longer!). We only had 4 hours but it was great fun seeing Shamu and the dolphins and the penguins. I also have baby news. Jennifer had her ultrasound and we are getting a BOY baby!! His name is going to be CJ (short for Charles James). Everyone is so excited. Now to get started on boy things.... The design your own sweater class starts on Monday night. Bring your yarn and needles and join us for this sure to be fun class. If you haven't seen the sweaters that have been our inspiration for this class, stop by and check them out - they are amazing! The Super Bowl Sale is next weekend - Sunday, February 1 from 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Stop by for all the great deals and the Bargain Basement! The pajama party is Friday, February 13 at 6ish until ?? I have a fun class planned and lots of really great food as always..and then there is the new stuff to shop for out of my suitcases and boxes! New in this week -

Happy New Year! We are almost to the end of another year. It has been a crazy year. We had a historical political season with a historic ending. Change is coming. I'm not really sure what that change will be, but by the grace of God we will get through the change and be better for it. We always are. The economy has been crazy and bound to get crazier. We must endure. I hope you all had a very merry Christmas. I know that I did. My mom, grandma and I left here Tuesday morning and drove to Lincoln to visit with Jennifer, Tom and Heather. It was so much fun having 5 generations together for Christmas. We had a great time with Heather. She has grown so much since I saw her last in September. We returned home on Sunday. It was a great time. Heather had a great time with "the grandmas"! I sent out an email on Tuesday before I left. If you did not receive it, please let me know. Several were returned due to it being "spam". Please add my email address to your address book so that doesn't happen. Don't forget about the big sale on Thursday, January 1. And don't forget to tell me that you read about it here on the blog for an additional 9% off your purchase!

Three days!! What a week this has been. I made arrangements with my mom last Tuesday to change her flight to come in about an hour and a half earlier than we had originally scheduled. That meant that grandma would come in a 6 p.m. and mom at 7:30 instead of 9. Only an hour and a half in the airport instead of 3 hours. Good plan. Well, grandma arrived about 15 minutes late and then sat on one level of the airport waiting for a wheelchair for 45 minutes, while I waited on another level. Finally got the wheelchair and headed over to the other concourse to pick up mom. Her flight was an hour late. So we sat. She finally got in and we got another wheelchair (only took 10 minutes this time!) Got the luggage and to the car and home by 11. Everyone is fine (well, mom has a head cold now so we are nursing that!) We are headed to Nebraska tomorrow so I hope that the snow isn't too bad. The trunk show from The Itty Bitty Nursery finally arrived today (2 weeks late). The items are SO cute. Stop by to see them. I will have the trunk show until the 5th. New in the past week:
cross stitch - Mirabilia - Ventian Opulence
needlepoint - SuZy's Mini Stitches
knitting - Namaste Buddy Bags (the same colors as the Zuma bags - but hurry because they are going fast!)
Don't forget about the new year's day sale from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Mention that you read about it on the blog and get an extra 9% off!
That's about it for this week. I hope that everyone has a very Merry Christmas!!
december 16
I know I'm late. I have a good excuse. I was finishing up my Christmas presents and getting ready to start inventory. (Was that good?) Baby - it's COLD outside. We had to have known that all those warm temperatures we had during the month of October and November would come back to bite us in the butt! What a shock to the system though. The tape I used to put up my Christmas lights around the window sure don't like the ice, as they are all down. I guess we'll have to be in the Christmas spirit inside the shop! Suzy, Lorelee and I started inventory yesterday. It is moving along fairly well. (Oh to be done by Christmas!!) Speaking of Christmas. There will be special holiday hours on Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day. Regular hours all other days. I will be gone from the 23rd - 29th. My mom and grandma arrive tomorrow (!!?!!) and we are headed to Lincoln for Christmas and then on the morning of the 29th we are all going with Jennifer to her doctor's appointment to find out what we are going to have!! december 6
How did it get to be December????? Only 19 days until Christmas. Are you ready? I am getting closer. Only the sleeves left of a sweater and a tiny bit on a pair of socks. Everything else is DONE!!! I do, however, have to get my house cleaned up since my mom and grandma are arriving in 11 days, and the inventory has to be done at the shop, and ...... We had a blast of winter this week. 9" of snow and some wind. It is looking a bit more like Christmas out there though. Hopefully the really cold is gone. At our Tuesday night knitting and stitching group this week we decided that we want to start a "design your own sweater" workshop and support group. So, starting Jan. 26, and every 2nd & 4th Monday following, we are going to work on our own design. Stop by to see our inspirations and get more information. And, I am announcing here first - I plan to be OPEN on January 1st for the first time ever with a Welcome to 2009 sale. Everything will be either 9%, 19%, 29%, 39%, or 49% off. Start the year with a big bang and join me from 10 - 4 for this first ever event. And, if you tell me that you read it on the blog you will get an additional 9% off!!!! Not a lot new this week.

I hope that everyone survived their Thanksgiving dinners and didn't eat too much. Also, hope you survived "Black Friday" and got all the deals that you went shopping for. I, for one, did not go shopping at 5 a.m. I figure the only thing that could get me out that early would be something for free and since I didn't even look at the ads, I didn't find anything that fit my criteria, so I didn't even go out. We did go last night to Barnes & Noble to pick up a book that I had ordered, but other than that - no shopping on Black Friday. (Besides that, I have all my Christmas shopping done!) I do have a couple of knitting items to finish up, but I sent all the gifts to the family in Nebraska earlier this week since I didn't think I would have room in the car when we go at Christmas. (I will have my mom and grandma and all our luggage and their gifts!) Tom got a puppy last weekend. He had kind of been looking for a welsh corgi tricolor and hadn't had any luck. Well, I opened the Trader's paper last Saturday night and there they were - 8 weeks old and 1 tricolor male. "Nelson" arrived Sunday night. He is so cute. Little stocky legs and a round body. He has been so good. Only 2 accidents in the house. He just sleeps in his "apartment" and hangs out. Not a lot of new items this week.

november 22
Well, here we are. Less than a week before Thanksgiving. We all have so much to be thankful for, even in this economy. I am thankful for each of you reading this article. I am thankful for my family, my friends, and most of all my church. Without each one of these things my life would not be what it is today. A heartfelt thank you to each of you for what you do. I sent a email newsletter this week. If you did not get it and would like one, please email me at penny@ewecount.com and request one. I would be happy to add you to the list. One thing I put in that newsletter was regarding the classes (or lack thereof) for the spring. I neglected to indicate that the monthly class for the Great American Afghan will continue to meet on the 1st Monday of each month. We have been meeting since September and everyone is encouraged to join us. We have done several of the squares for the afghan, but we always welcome new comers. There was not a lot new this week.

new knitting needles with fun ends and ... I have put together an enormous amount of grab bags that are out now. There are some really fantastic yarns in these grab bags at fantastic prices. Many are scarf quantities, but there are some quantities that would be good for sweaters as well. Some are odd & ends, and there are some that are not. You really have to see this selection to believe it!
One last thing for this week - don't forget about the 14th anniversary sale to be held on Friday, Nov 28 & Saturday, Nov 29! I really can't believe that I am starting my 15th year in business! You are all a blessing to me and I thank you for all your business over the past 14 years!! Everything in the shop will be on sale during the sale! Be sure to stop by and get some great deals.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
november 15
Wow! November 15. Thanksgiving is in less than 2 weeks. Christmas is just around the corner. Are you ready? The shop is brimming with items for last minute gifts. Gift certificates always make great gifts for the knitter or stitcher on your list. Or how about a set of fun knitting needles to tuck in the stocking? I am sending out a quick email newsletter the first part of next week. No mailed newsletter this year. The cost is simply prohibitive to do that. Tell all your friends that don't receive the email newsletter to give me a call and get their email on the list. Don't forget about the anniversary sale that happens the weekend after Thanksgiving. 14th anniversary! I can't believe that I am starting my 15th year in business. Thank you to everyone for making that possible. It has been wonderful! Not a lot of new items this week.
Knitted Jackets and.... the flat feet of the month! These are great! Some are Christmas colors (red & green) with snowmen, stars, snowflakes, and trees. Some are shaded blues for Hanukkah. If I had more time it would be a hard decision which one I would pick first!
That's it for this week. Hope you all enjoyed the first snow. Boy, was I shocked when I got up Friday morning to find 3" of snow! We were way overdue though! Kind of gets you in the mood of the season though doesn't it? See you all soon!
november 8
Did you survive the wind? I think all that lovely weather we have been having over the last month or so is now gone. With the wind. Blowing. My fence is kind of like that. Gone with the wind. All over my back yard. In pieces. Not a pretty sight. Oh well - that's why we live in Wyoming. Send all our nasty air to Nebraska! (sorry about that Nebraska). Well, the elections are over. Thank goodness. We won't have to listen to all those ads for another 2 years or so. No matter how you feel about the winners, there is someone else just as passionate about the losers. We must all learn to work together for the good of the country. Because that is what matters the most - the country. We have a constitution that will uphold the country and we must strive for a union that will work for everyone. OK off my soapbox. Lots of new things things in this week -

OK so I'm late again. Sorry. I have a really good excuse this week though. Saturday morning I left early to spend the day with Tom and his 2 sons. We went up to the cabin that Tom had purchased in September to clear some timber and cut down some trees. I thought I was going along to help do the work. To my surprise when we got there they built a fire in the stove in the cabin and pulled up a chair and told me to knit! All I did all day long was knit and feed wood into the fire. What a great day! There was about 4" - 5" of snow up there and a little chilly so it was toasty warm in the cabin with the fire going. I don't get many days like that! On a sad note, a very dear friend of a very dear friend passed away this past week. She was also a customer and although we never got her to use "the good stuff" she did a lot of crocheting and will be missed. Rest in peace dear Bonnie. You are now out of pain and able to walk with a much litter step. I hope that everyone plans to go vote this week. I really don't care who you vote for (well, maybe I do), but this is a very important time in our history and your vote is very important. Don't miss out on this opportunity. (And if you don't vote I don't want to hear one word of complaint!!) New this week -

OK, so I am a little late posting this week. Sorry. Yesterday got crazy. I had a great week. Friday I went to Denver with our new pastor and a couple of others from the church to a stewardship conference. It was absolutely fantastic. I learned so much. Now to keep the excitement going and put all that we learned into practice! That will be the hard part. When we were done with the conference, Pastor Cho took us to a state park in south Denver and we hiked for about 30 minutes. It was beautiful. The colors were amazing. There were signs when we went into the park about bears and rattlesnakes. We weren't worried. When we came back out, there was a couple of guys standing there. "Did you see the bear?" "What bear?" "The bear that was off to the left about 150 yards up the path." "Uh, what bear. Bear?" We sure didn't see any bear! After that Pastor Cho took us to have Korean food. It was very good. I had never had seaweed or kimshe (Ok I know I spelled that wrong!!!) It was a great day! I talked with Heather this week about the new baby. She is sure that it is a baby sister. Not a baby brother. They got to hear the heart beat and she saw the baby on the "puter". Some new things this week:

We had our little blast of cold air and no snow, and now we are back to a beautiful Indian Summer. I just finished raking the yard and I didn't even need a coat on. No wind - I'm not sure I'm in Wyoming! But they say that it is supposed to get windy this afternoon again. The men are out hunting so I hope that you got started on your Christmas things while you had some time alone. You have only 60+ days!!! I had some WONDERFUL news this week. My little Heather is going to be a big sister!! After 2 years of trying and lots of frustration, fertility shots and the decision that there wasn't going to be another child, the stars have aligned (or in this case the egg and the sperm!) and I will be a Grandma again in May or June of 2009! I am thrilled. (Congratulations dear - I know you are reading this!) In other news, some of you know Marsha (she works for me sometimes). Her brother had a heart transplant last Monday and is recovering. They really need your prayers. Marsha has been in Denver for the past 5 weeks taking care of him and will probably be there a few more weeks unti he is stable enough to be on his own. It is not a smooth recovery so please think of them. Thank you.

I think that fall is officially here and the "s" word is definitely in the forecast - maybe today! I had to turn my furnace on yesterday - it was a chilly 61 in the shop yesterday morning and I was cold! I found out a couple of weeks ago that my Mom is planning to come to Cheyenne for Christmas. Then, out of the blue, my Grandmas called last weekend and she wants to come also! I talked with Jennifer and she wants us to come there for Christmas, but then she is planning to fly to New Mexico on Jan 4 for a week and is leaving Heather with me! The "Grandmas" are leaving on the 5th, so it looks like we will go to Denver on the 4th and spend the night so I can shuttle everyone to and from their respective places. It should be interesting to keep everyone's schedules coordinated! I got yelled at last week for not posting on a regular basis. Sorry. It has kind of crazy. And if there is not a lot of new things, I don't think about posting. Forgive me. So, this week there are a LOT of new things!

OK - I didn't post over the weekend. Silly me. I lost the web address to get into my blog to post. I don't know where it went. Just disappeared. So, I had to wait until I could call the company to get my passwords again. Classes are going strong. Something every night around here. But, again, not a lot of people are signing up for the classes. What is with that? Everybody wants to know about classes, but nobody signs up. I am at a loss with this whole class thing. There certainly is no shortage of people coming in during the day to ask for help on a certain project, but sign up for a class....not so fast. OK, off my soapbox.
Don't we live in an exciting time? The economy stinks, who know where we are going politically, and this Wall Street bailout..... My personal opinion? We need to be doing more needlework. More with our hands. How about cross stitch, knitting, crochet, needle punch, needle felting, tatting....something. And where do you get the goods to do all these great things? Right here!!!

September 19 - pajama party, fall open house, changes, on line show
Wow! What a week I had. I left last Wednesday morning and traveled to St Louis. I had a meeting Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Spent a couple of hours on Main Street in Historic St. Charles (really cool place - fun shops and great restaurants). Had a retreat for shop owners on Thursday evening and all day Friday. Had classes Saturday - a needle felting class from Judy of Mosey N Me and an over one cross stitch class from Ruth from Twisted Threads. (Ask to see Mr Santa!) Market was Sunday and Monday. I spent WAY too much money, but I had a great time! The pajama party is tonight, but I thought I would try to get all this posted before hand because I know I won't have time to do it tomorrow! september 6
School has started. The weather has cooled. NOW is the time to get going on those fall and winter projects. The dreaded "C" holiday will be here before we know it. Halloween has invaded our stores and Christmas won't be far behind. It amazes me how soon that stuff starts to appear - as if we don't remember when it comes every year! I had a great trip last weekend to visit the kids. When I arrived on Friday evening I was told "we are going to the zoo tomorrow - the one in Omaha!" (She knows the difference!) We stopped at the yarn stores in Omaha before going to the zoo. It is always fun to see other shops. One of them has all their yarn displayed by color - interesting. Sunday we just bummed all day. We did take a walk to visit Heather's preschool. (OH my God! She starts preschool this week - wasn't she just born!!!) Spent some time in the park on the way. Monday we went to the zoo in Lincoln. Now, she has been there so many times she could do it blindfolded. Ride the ponies, see the animals, catch the butterflies, sit in the bald eagle nest, etc. Then, sadly, I had to drive back to Cheyenne on Tuesday. I love going, but it is always good to get home. So much work to get done. Classes start Monday night (be sure to sign up soon for the ones you want) and then every week day is filled until after Thanksgiving. I am leaving Wednesday to travel to St. Louis for a TNNA board meeting, retail retreat, classes, and market. It will be an action packed, mind boggling week. The pajama party is in just a little less than 2 weeks. If you haven't signed up yet, do so soon. We have a really great time and you will get to see the new things first hand. I have already started to accumulate some of the new things to bring out that night. We have great food, a class (that I don't know what it will be yet!), and then lots of fun and shopping. New this week -

august 23
OK, I know it isn't August 23rd, it really is August 25. I was so busy over the weekend (doing what I'm not sure) that I didn't get a chance to write. Really, I have been doing A LOT of knitting. I set a challenge for myself to knit an entire sweater during the olympics. So, I cast on just before the opening ceremonies on August 8, knit on the sweater all the way to Jackson and back, knit all last week (with time out to get caught up from being gone - you know, paperwork, house work, laundry, etc. and mailing out 2500 newsletters). I finished the sweater. I sewed the last button on just before the closing ceremonies started. I was an accomplishment, but one that I am proud of. So, the next time you are in, ask about my olympic sweater. I think I deserve a gold medal! The other reason I didn't write sooner is that there was hardly any new items last week. It makes it hard to write about new stuff when there wasn't any! So, without any further ado, here are the new things:
Prairie Schooler - December, November, Santas & Snowman, When Witches Go Riding, 2008 Santa Mirabilia - Athena Goddess of Wisdom A Stitcher's Hands - Peace new fabric - Cashel (28 count) - Ruby Wine & Charcoal Gray Belfast (32 count) - Charcoal Gray
That's it - hardly worth writing about. I am taking a couple of days this weekend and heading to Lincoln to visit the kids. It will be my last chance to get out of town before the classes start in earnest on the 8th of September. Once that happens, I am committed in the evenings Monday - Thursday every week until Thanksgiving. It is a huge time committment and I hope that everyone takes advantage of all the classes. I think that classes are an important part of the shop experience and I just wish that more people would take advantage of them. Please look at the schedule and think about taking a class. Have a great week and watch out for the little ones as they start back to school.
August 8 news
Rain! We needed the rain! I hope that no one got flooded out with our big rain storm the other night. The Snyder River was flowing fast! (That would be all the water running down Snyder Ave on Tuesday night!) Jennifer and Heather have been here since last Saturday. We have had a marvelous time. Heather decided that she wanted to be "one of the ladies" and has been shopping all week. She ended up with 7 tote bags full of stuff - beads, threads, yarn, crochet hooks, etc. What a hoot she was! It took a while to get it all put away! I am leaving later this morning to go on vacation. Tom and I are taking his kids to Saratoga for the weekend. (Jenn & Heather were supposed to go with us too, but Jenn has a dinner in Lincoln Saturday night so has to go back early.) Then we are leaving from Saratoga on Monday and heading to Jackson and Yellowstone Park for the rest of the week. I am really looking forward to not having to be somewhere at a certain time! I can't remember the last real "vacation" I had. Marsha will be in charge of the shop while I am gone.

august 2
OK, so it is actually August 3 when I am posting this. A little late, but better late than never. Yesterday was a little crazy so I never made it here to put this in. I had to get the house cleaned up because a little person arrived yesterday afternoon (with her mom) to spend the week. I am so excited that Jennifer and Heather are here for a week. She has grown so much since I saw her in May. I told her that I was going to squish her down and make her small again because she was growing up way to fast. She just giggled. It has been hot. Don't complain. Soon it will be cold. Then we'll complain about that. It has been hot. Only a few new things this week - Namaste - messenger bags - 5 colors - these are GREAT bags Crochet magazine - Sept 08 Vogue Knitting - fall 08

july 26 news
The final Frontier Days parade is going on as I write this. The school buses full of people in cowboy hats will soon be a memory for another year. Frontier Days does not really affect me as much as some businesses. People that are here for Frontier Days for the most part are not my crowd. I have had several people here for the Shop Hop (you still have a few days to participate!) and it is always fun to see those people that I get to see once a year. (You know it isn't that far - you could come up more often!) New this week -

July 19 news
Thank you to everyone for enduring all the construction out front the last week or so. It took longer than they anticipated and there were a few glitches in the works but I have a great new water line with lots of water pressure and when they get around to figuring out what they are going to do with the area out front (I am lobbying for concrete!) it will all be back to normal. The neighbors were not quite so lucky = they ended up with over $6000 damage to their basement when the water exploded through their foundation. Sooooo glad I'm not them. The shop hop is still going great. If you haven't had a chance to do the shop hop yet you still have time - it runs until the end of the month. Welcome to all the visitors for Frontier Days. July 12
Well, 2 days has turned into a week. We should have know that when the city said it would take 2 days to do the water, it would take longer. Now, they plan to repave Randall Ave since they already have it torn up. New projections are to do that on Monday. So sorry for all the inconvenience. It will be much better when they are done. Had a really fun week here this week. Last year when I did the boutique for the EGA Rocky Mountain Region seminar in Park City several of the ladies from Salt Lake asked Suzy if she would teach a class for them if they came here a couple of days before this years seminar in Denver. So we had 5 lovely ladies from Utah spend Monday & Tuesday with us. They were a tremendous amount of fun. Thanks to all of them for being such a lovely group. Great new stuff this week -
cross stitch - Nordic Needle - 2008 Award Winning Hardanger Designs Shepherd's Bush - Into the Night, Queen Sheep, Happy Pumpkin Roll, Miss Liberty, Sam, Mermaid Sampler, Sail Away
knitting - Piecework - July/Aug 08 Knitscene - Fall 08 Creative Knitting - Sept 08 Berroco - Noarh Guaghan #3, Sockcetera #280 Lost Sock - 200 ways to use your single sock (SSS anyone?) Great Garter Stitch Never Not Knitting - The Yarn Harlot - Stephanie Pearl-McPhee - 365 Days of Wit & Wisdom for 2009 Cascade Yarn - Heritage sock - Christmas Red Plymouth Yarn - Happy Choices - similar to Flat Feet - printed and undyed South West Trading Co - Therapi braided wrap kits
That's about it for this week. We welcome all the visitors this next week to Cheyenne Frontier Days. Also, the shop hop is continuing so we see visitors from the Denver area almost every day. I LOVE this time of year. Don't forget about Stitch N Pitch - it is coming up August 9. Contact me for ticket information. I, unfortunately, will not be able to attend this year. We are going on vacation! An honest to God true vacation. I can hardly wait. Have a great week. See you soon.
Construction & road closure
Yes, the road is closed in front of the business. But this is a very good thing and you can still get here by parking in the lot next door. Just access the parking lot off Snyder! Hopefully this will only be for a couple of days (at least that is what they are telling me!) The completion of this will make me a VERY happy woman! It is a long time in coming (5 years) and suspends a $12,000 lein that the city of Cheyenne put against my house when I had the zoning changed. I can deal with the construction and the road being closed for a couple of days to offset that!!!! See you soon!!

Welcome to World Wide Knit in Public Day. I hope everyone has plans to come out and celebrate with us today. The yarns are ready to be "tasted" and it promises to be a really fun day. I had a really good time at market - spent waaaaay to much money, but hey, that's why I went! I took a fantastic sock class from Cat Bordhi and learned a lot of really great things. I took a great class from Lucy Neatby and learned a ton. I took a fun needlepoint class and am actually going to finish the project! The Yarn Harlot was our guest speaker at our luncheon and she was as funny as always. My meetings were mostly good, so it was a great trip. The weather was HOT and HUMID! In fact the official weather forecast one day was "sticky". Now, I don't think we have to worry about a weather forecast like that in Wyoming! There is some new stuff that came in while I was gone -

Short week. Crazy week. Hope everyone had a great long weekend last week. I really enjoyed my extra day off and got a lot of stuff done that never gets done. Like cleaning.
More details about June 14 - World Wide Knit in Public Day - we will start at 7:30 - 9:30 at the Starbucks on Central. Join us for coffee and knitting. Then we will move to the shop from 10 - 5 with knitting in the parking lot. All the models for the fall classes will be available for observation, yarn tasting, coupons for discounts on future purchases, maybe some munchies, beginning knitting classes and much more. Don't miss it!
I just have to say something here about special orders. I had a really bad situation this week and don't want to go into details here, but I really don't mind taking special orders. I just would like to know why people don't pick them up in a timely manner - or at least communicate with me if there is a problem and they can't make it in to pick them up. I understand. Life happens. But don't leave me hanging. I call as soon as it comes in. If you don't show up in a reasonable time (4 weeks) I call again, and again, and again. I have to pay for stuff within 30 days. No communication after 4 months is unacceptable. I WILL charge your credit card for the merchandise. I don't think that is identity theft (of course we'll see what the police say - if they show up). I am a small business. I rely on your purchases to buy other things. I have to eat and buy gas and pay my utilities too. Communication is a good thing and yelling at me doesn't make me happy. Thank you for allowing me to vent.
On to more pleasant things - I am headed to market this week (thus the need for people to pay for what they ordered). There will be no post next weekend. I am leaving early Wednesday morning and will be back on the following Tuesday. Lorelee and Marsha are watching the shop. Please be patient with them. It is Marsha's first time.
New this week -

What a wild weather week we have had! I hope everyone survived the tornados with relative ease and had no damage. I pray for those neighbors in Colorado that lost their homes and businesses. Please stop in and view the fall class models and pick up your class schedule. Mark your calendars for June 14 - World Wide Knit in Public Day - I'm working on the details and they should be ready to announce very soon! Have a great week and see you soon!

What an awesome weekend this is shaping up to be. Could it be? Spring? Finally? Here it is only 9:30 in the morning and it is already 60! Woo Hoo!!! Wow! What a great time we had last night in Denver. Five of us went to Highlands Ranch to see the Yarn Harlot. She was as funny as always and it was great fun. But, boy am I tired today. We got home at 1:30 this morning. We left the Tattered Cover at 10:30. There was a bad accident on the highway and it tool f.o.r.e.v.e.r to get through it. We couldn't believe how many accidents and flashing lights we saw on the way home. At least 3 accidents (one a motorcycle - that was the one that took over 45 minutes to go about 5 miles) and several people pulled over. But dispite all of that it was a great evening. Be sure to check out the Yarn Harlot's blog - www.yarnharlot.ca - to read about her adventures in Denver.

Can you believe that March is already gone? This year is already a quarter over. I really don't know where it goes. I want to thank Suzy, Marsha and Connie for all their concern this past week. I had a little episode on Tuesday and ended up with a whopper migraine. They were there to nurse me back to health. I am feeling much better thanks to them. I hope everyone had a great Easter (and the bunny was good to you!) and if you got spring break this past week, I hope it was a good one for you. We all need time to rejuvinate! Some things coming up that you want to mark your calendars for: Friday, April 4 (yes, next Friday) the Yarn Harlot will be speaking and signing her newest book in Denver. We are planning a road trip. The shop will close at 3:30 on Friday so we can get to Denver in time for the big event. If you are interested in carpooling with us, please let me know as soon as possible so I can make the traveling plans. The Front Range Shop Hop is again being planned for the month of July for the cross stitch shops (Greeley, Littleton, Longmont and Cheyenne). Should be fun as always. More details will be available soon. There was not a lot of new items again this week.

Happy Easter! It sure seems funny to have Easter this early in the year doesn't it. The earliest it will ever be in any of our lifetimes. I read somewhere this week that someone said "I sure wish they'd quit screwing with the calender". I guess they don't understand that it isn't "someone screwing with the calender" - it is the way the full moons fall. We certainly had a blustery week around here. (I think that is putting it mildly!) And since our big blizzard didn't materialize Sunday and Monday I was able to take a day off and play Grandma. We went to Greeley and then to Loveland and then to Fort Collins. Got some shopping done and then took Heather to Chuck E Cheese. She had a great time there. The kids left on Thursday and it has been pretty quiet around here with them gone. We didn't tell Suzy that we were leaving the dog in the basement when we left Monday morning and we hadn't been gone 15 minutes when she called and asked what the howling was that was coming from the basement - Oh there's a beagle in my basement!! Have you checked out the changes to my homepage? I think it still needs a little tweeking but it will be better.
Not a lot in new this week - Cascade Heritage Paints - hand painted sock yarns (3 beautiful colors) Vogue Knitting - Spring/Summer 08 Creative Knitting - May 08 Crochet - May 08 Piecework - March/April 08
That's about it. Stop by the shop and check out the great new window! I love my new little sheep frolicking about on my window! Have a great week and Happy Easter!

Beware the Ides of March. Well, we had a bit of snow overnight. Not hardly enough to give us any moisture that we desparately need though. We do have a winter storm watch for tomorrow so we'll see if that produces any significant moisture. I just want it to wait until at least late this afternoon because Jennifer and Heather are headed this way! They left me a message early this morning "We are coming!". I think (if we don't get a lot of snow) that we are going to go play on Monday. New in this week: Cross Stitch & Needlework - May 08 Prairie Schooler - Weather Wise, A Farmers Almanac, Old McDonald, Daffodils Carolyn Manning - Snowball of the Month - March, Snowball of the Month - February Just Nan - Barnabee's Bride, When Barnabee Met Bella (biscornu) Lavender Wings - Share the Love
Knitting - Dale of Norway - Spring Family book Kid Silk Haze - the last of the yarns for the Modern Quilt Wrap (at least the one we substitued for the one that had been discontinued!)
That's about it for this week. Don't drink too much green beer. Kiss the Blarney Stone and do all the crazy St Patrick's day things on Monday. I'm going to play grandma........
Welcome to my new blog!
Hi! We are trying something new. Hopefully this will get rid of all of that sex crap that everyone kept posting on the forum. It was a pain in the tush to keep checking it all the time to make sure that there was nothing offensive posted. I will keep you informed on this blog the same way I did on the forum of new items on a weekly basis - and you never know - maybe something exciting a bit more often. Stay tuned and welcome to the blog!

What a week! From temperatures in the 60's to snow storms and everything in between! You just never know what to expect around here! And a whirlwind of policital activity. Huge crowds have greeted the Democratic presidental candidates. It is heartwarming to see people embrace the political activity. I know that not everyone feels the same about all the candidates but I truely hope that everyone takes the time to investigate all the candidates and chooses the one that will lead this country to the best of their ability for the next 4 years, whether it be Rupublican or Democrate. OK, enough of my soap box. Lots of new cross stitch in this week (left over from the Nashville market) and some new yarns as well.

Welcome March! It is a beautiful day out today, but look out for tomorrow. March is coming in like a lion and let's hope it goes out like a lamb! I hope everyone enjoyed their extra day yesterday. My son-in-law had his 7th birthday! I keep telling him that his daughter is going to be older than he is very soon! It has been a week around here. Lots of fun new items (see list below) and lots going on. Marsha has been here doing some more scanning for me to enter more items at the ebay store site (check it out at: http://stores.ebay.com/Ewe-Count-Classics ) I now have over 2000 items listed for sale and about 10 more boxes of stuff to get entered! I have been sending items all over the world! As I said above there are lots of new items coming in. All the stuff that was ordered at market is show up so the UPS and the FedEx guys are here almost every day with new things. The 2008 Knitters Magazine Sock Contest was announced last weekend and I have lots of sock yarn for you to use! More information about the sock contest will be available shortly - but it is going to be fantastic with thousands of dollars in prizes! New stuff this week: Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion Magazine - April/May 08 Needlepoint Now - March/April 08 Precious Moments for Little Boys & Girls Cross Stitch Cuties - (30 designs) magnetic wood swan scissors mighty bright micro clip light
Itty Bitty Nursery (watch for a trunk show later this year!) Knitting New Mittens & Gloves Guy Knits (The Best of Knitters) Japanese Crafts - Amigurumi (these are really really cute!) Tat's Where I Stopped (tatted bookmarks) Trekking - undyed - sock yarn to dye yourself! Kid Silk Haze - finally, after being on back order since September! - the yarn for that fabulous shawl featured in Folk Style that everyone fell in love with while we had the trunk show here. The only problem is that one of the colors has been discontinued so we are attempting to replace that color with something that will work in its place. So, I have 8 of the 9 colors needed for the shawl. I'm working on the other one - at least it isn't the color you have to start with!
I also got more of the 9" circular needles in.
That's about it for this week. Have a great week. Don't forget about my charity knitting project each Saturday morning from 10 - 12. You can knit or crochet on Warm Up America, Caps for Kids, prayer shawls, or The Red Scarf Project. Please try to join us if you can. These are all very worth while projects that need lots of help. Thanks for your help.
