Groundhog Day. Yes, there was a shadow. Yes, there will be more winter. Yes, there is a winter storm warning with 8" of snow predicted for tonight. We still would have had more winter if that d....ed groundhog hadn't seen his shadow.

I have been absent from my blog. I have excuses. Don't I always? I spent a week in Phoenix - board meetings, classes, market, dinners, meetings - you get the picture. No time for anything but work, work, work! OK, maybe there was a few moments of fun! There was all that yarn buying...

Happy New Year!! I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas and holiday season. I travelled to Lincoln to spend Christmas with Jennifer and her family. It was so much fun to watch the kids on Christmas morning! When I came back home, Heather came with me and spent 4 days here. It was great fun to spend some time with her. On the last full day that she was here, she says "Grandma will you teach me to knit?" OF COURSE!!! I just wish she had asked me sooner in the week so we would have had more time to work on it.
I have been trying to get some projects completed that have been hanging around almost done. I am working my way through them. I finished up 2 pair of socks (I had 1 1/2 done on both pairs!), a sweater (that had been on the needles for 18 months!) and have 3 more of the Feed Your Creativity class projects worked up. So much to do, so little time! I hope that you will be able to get some projects completed also!

We had no snow this week - what will next week bring? I know I keep saying this, but are you ready for Christmas? There are only 2 weeks until Thanksgiving and then 4 weeks after that is Christmas. It is not just creeping up on us, it is barrelling down on us. My deadline for Christmas framing and finishing is December 10!!
I have been working on a new project - I am making "tuckable" pillows. These are for small projects and would even work for ornaments - 5" square. october 22

Here I am - late again. I have been meaning to post all week, but life just kept getting in the way! I don't think that I can ever really be caught up - there is always just one more (or two or three!)thing to get done.

I had a great time in New Orleans. Gayle from Accents was a great hostess. She showed us all over the city and we even went to a plantation house - Oak Alley. It was amazing! We saw millionaires row and the lower 9th ward. Houses that were absolutely amazing and houses that still had the marks from Katrina on the outside. Unbelievable that there could be so much difference in just a short drive. We walked down Bourbon Street, walked the French Quarter, ate beignets (ok - more than once), had bread pudding (yep - more than once), and oh, yes spent 3 days in meetings - that was the real reason for going to New Orleans. The meetings were very productive and I feel a lot better about the state of the industry after the meetings. After much strife between the product segments I believe that we are actually working together for the betterment of the industry. Yippee!!!

So, while I was gone quite a few things arrived in the shop (go figure!)

Lizzie Kate - Not All of Us Can Do Great Things, Ho Ho Ho in a Row, Winter Alphabet, Be Jolly, and the final 3 charts in the 6 Fat Men series - Snow Fun, Snow Day, and Let it Snow

knitting -
Knitscene - Winter 2011
Knitting Off the Axis
Garden 10 Metallic Lacy Knits (oh, I just have to do the sweater in this one!)
Mirasol - Ushya & Sulka - by Jane Ellison (cute little shep in this one)

yarn -
Alp Oriental - one ball makes a very interesting little shawl or scarf
Monarch - a worsted weight yarn by Mountain Meadow Wool dyed by Mountain Colors
Teton - a bulky yarn by Mountain Meadow Wool dyed by Mountain Colors with a hat pattern on the label
Merina Glitz - finally!! we can't keep Merina in stock and now we have the metallic version!
Knit Collage - a very funky think & thin yarn with metallic bits and other fun things woven into the yarn - makes great scarves out of one skein!

The Cowboy Joe yarn has flown out the door - more is on order and should be here soon - check out my hat and scarf knit in this very fun dyed yarn especially for Wyoming fans!

One of the other things that happened when I was in New Orleans was a visit to Gayle's shop. I am always on the look out for a better way to display things (I think I have tunnel vision and can't look outside my box). Well, there it was - a better way to display all those specialty hand dyed threads. I have already got some of them changed over and I think I am really going to love the new system. Problem is that it doesn't all fit in the area that it was in previously and now I have to think outside of my box again and figure out where to put more threads! It may take me a few days so bear with me - it really will be better when I am done!

Have a great week! And now I have to give you the bad news - there are just over 60 days until Christmas - are you ready???????

october 9

s, I am up early on this chilly Sunday morning trying to get ready to leave town for the week. I am headed to New Orleans for a couple of days of fun with Deb (Stitches N Things in Michigan) and Gayle (Accents, Inc in Louisiana) and then a TNNA Retail Council meeting and then a TNNA Board meeting. I really think the couple of days touring and learning about New Orleans are going to be more fun than the meetings, but you never know!!
What a storm we had yesterday. What was supposed to be a dusting of snow ended up being about 5"! I didn't think it was going to stop - and such big flakes! Wow!!
I have been working my little fingers to the bone this past week - I finished up 4 of the snowmen from Amy Brueken's "A Man A Month" (I was a little behind), stitched up a little piece from Lizzie Kate's new Tiny Tidings, stitched "Gift" from Cherry Wood Design Studio, and "Live Life" from Shepherd's Bush. I also finished up a sweater that I have been working on for a while and started a hat out of the new "Cowboy Joe" colorways from Mountain Meadow Wool - love the brown & gold! I should be able to get the hat finished up on the plane today!

The construction continues - this is week 7 - however they are pouring concrete for the curbs so maybe there is an end in sight for this project. I will be glad when people can actually get here without going out of their way through the neighborhood.

My kids will be here this weekend! They are coming for the Wyoming/Nebraska game - I fear we will be yelling for opposite teams, although with Wyoming being 22 point underdogs I really don't think I will have much to cheer about. We will have to tolerate my grandchildren dressed in their Nebraska clothes however! (I think I can handle it!) Go Wyo!!!

sept 12

Wow! What a busy couple of weeks it has been since I last wrote.
We closed down our Estes Park shop, so I was up there a couple of times, bringing stuff back and trying to figure out where to put it - either in the shop here or in the garage (or some is still in my basement with no home at all).
Cat Bordhi was here over the weekend with her fabulous classes. I think they were very well received. She is a delight and I had a great time putting everything together. I hope the students had fun as well.
Yesterday I participated in the 9-11 Remembrance 5k run at the Capital. I don't think I will ever be able to forget watching that plane fly into the towers in New York. Utter disbelief.
This next weekend I will be in Scottsbluff, Nebraska participating the the Scottsbluff Valley Fiber Arts Fair sponsored by Brown Sheep Co. The event is at the fairgrounds in Mitchell from 9 - 4 on Saturday. I hope to see you there!

I keep a list of all the new items as they come in. Somehow in all the confusion of the last couple of weeks, my piece of paper has diappeared. (boo) So, in lieu of the list of new things, I will just say that there are several new items in cross stitch (including the Just Cross Stitch Annual Christmas Ornament issue) and some new yarns and magazines on the knitting side. You will just have to stop by the shop to see what's new!!

Have a great week!!

aug 24

I have been very bad about posting here. I have been very busy and this has taken a back seat. I will try to give you the highlights of the past couple of weeks.
Aug 3 -6 I had the pleasure of hosting the boutique for the Rocky Mountain Region Embroiderers' Guild seminar in Denver. Hard work setting up and tearing down, but a great time in between. It is always so much fun to see the friends that I made with the EGA several years ago - and I only get to see them every other year.
My mom and I arrived back in Cheyenne late Saturday night only to turn around and head back to Denver on Monday evening for a very early flight on Tuesday to Baltimore. We spent Tuesday afternoon exploring the Inner Harbor area of Baltimore, then Wednesday & Thursday we spent in Washington DC exloring the Capital, Arlington National Cemetery, the old Post Office, viewing the White House and the National Cathedral (where the military was practicing for a presidential funeral), and then a tour of the monuments by night. Friday was classes, Saturday & Sunday was the Fall Needlework Market and Monday Mom & I headed back into DC to go through a couple of museums before heading home. Getting home was a challenge as our flight was delayed 4 hours because of weather. We finally arrived in Denver at midnight (2 a.m. to my body)- needless to say, we spent another night in Denver before coming back to Cheyenne Tuesday morning. A great trip!!
The pajama party is this Friday evening (OMG only 2 days away - I am not ready!)All the great things that I bought in Baltimore, along with all the things that have been arriving over the past month are just waiting to be shared with everyone. If you don't make it to the pajama party, be sure to come in on Saturday for the fall open house and Q & A workshop by Donna Druchunas at 1 p.m. on Arctic Lace, muskox, and Alsaska. She will be doing a book signing at 2 p.m.

Completely forgot. So sorry. It just now dawned on me that I hadn't blogged on Friday - too many things going on!!

Frontier Days is over, the Front Range shop hop is over, now I am gearing up for the Rocky Mountain Region Embroiderers' Guild of America region seminar this coming weekend in Denver. I am hosting the boutique and have been busy putting everything together for that - about 100 or more women for the weekend. It promises to be fun! This will be the 4th time I have had the opportunity to do the boutique for the region and I am honored. So many boxes of things arriving just for the show....

And then, 2 days after I get done with the show I am heading to Baltimore! The fall needlework market is early this year and in a new location. My mom will be here to help with the boutique in Denver and she is going to travel with me. We have a couple of days scheduled in Washington DC!

As soon as I return from that trip the Yarn Crawl will be starting (on the 15th). I hope you take the opportunity to travel to the other shops and see what they have to offer!

july 23

The first weekend of the 135th Cheyenne Frontier Days. I was sure I would be able to hear Kid Rock from the house last night, but no. Oh well.

I have special hours this week - I will be closing at 5 every day except Wednesday, when I will be closing at 2.

The yarn for the advance planning for the Feed Your Creativity class came this week so I have been very busily knitting up the models for the class. The first 3 have gone very quickly, I think the next couple will take a bit longer. There is still room in the class - this is a 10 month committment - most of the classes this year are around $25 (1 a bit more, 1 a bit less). This is put together by Kollage Yarns and each project is done with a different yarn. Hats, mitts, scarves, cowls, shawls. Let me know if you are interested and stop in and see the finished models.

Well.... we had a grand time last night yarn bombing the statues in town! We had a newspaper reporter tagging along with us and I think she was having a good time too! The article is in today's paper and the link and pictures are on Facebook (and they should be on the home page of the website as well). I can check this one off my "to do" list!
Frontier Days is coming right up - next week as a matter of fact. If you get a chance to check out the Wyoming Business Council booth out in the Village, you will see many hand knit mitts and scarves - knit out of Mountain Meadow Wool from Buffalo Wyoming! My thanks to Cathy Littlejohn, Marsha Clinkingbeard, Connie Wise and Lorelee Nomm for helping me with the knitting of those items. They are for sale at the WBC booth. (checked that off my "to do" list!)
The shop hop is still in full swing! Hope you get a chance to participate. It is great fun to see what the other shops have - we all buy from the same distributors and all have different items! (checking this off my "to do" list in a couple of weeks)
Planning is underway for the 2nd Annual "Hot August Knits Yarn Crawl" that will happen August 15 - 31. There are 8 shops participating this year and the grand prize should be worth more than $500!!!
Saturday, August 27 - in conjunction with the yarn crawl - Donna Druchunas will be giving a Q & A at 1 p.m. on Arctic Lace, muskox, and Alaska. She will be doing a book signing at 2 p.m. Donna is the author of Arctic Lace and Successful Lace Knitting.
August 4 - 6 I will be in Denver at the Embroiderers' Guild of America Region Seminar with a selection of items in the boutique. If you are interested in attending please let me know and I can give you more details.
The Fall Needlework Market will be in Baltimore, MD the weekend of August 12 - 14. I am looking forward to attending this market and finding all the latest & greatest for the shop - all to be revealed at the Pajama Party on Friday, August 26. Space is limited so get your reservations in soon!
It is going to be a busy 6 weeks coming up! (and don't forget about the Laramie County Fair - deadline for your entry form is July 22!!!!) Hope to see you all soon!

The first weekend in August

july 9

I hope that everyone had a great 4th of July weekend. I really took a couple of days off! I watched the closing arguments of the trial and got a lot of stitching done! It was very realaxing and enjoyable.

Things have been busy here with the needlework shop hop in full swing. It is so much fun to see all the ladies from Longmont and Denver that only travel up here once a year. Sure wish they would come more often! I have heard from more than one of them that this is their favorite shop and would I consider moving south. The answer to that question is "NO!!!" I love being in Cheyenne and wouldn't consider moving anywhere.

We are gearing up for the yarn bombing that is planned for next Friday evening. We are meeting at the shop at 9 p.m. and everyone is welcome to come and help. We have lots of fun ideas planned!! Contact me if you have quesions.

Well, I have been remiss in posting to my blog. It has been a very crazy few weeks. Market was very busy - lots of meetings and I seemed to get in very little shopping. I hope I bought good things!! Some of them have already started arriving!
Last weekend we did World Wide Knit in Public Day and had a great time at Starbucks. We got to the shop, got the chairs all set up on the lawn and then the rain and hail hit and we were forced inside. So, instead of knitting on the lawn, we knit in the shop. It was still fun!

Welcome to June!! Wow, not sure how that happened. Wasn't it just Christmas??? After months of crappy weather, the summer has finally arrived. I think I already heard someone say "is it ever going to cool off?" Such short memories we have!!

Knitty Gritty

That's it for this week. I have been knitting up a storm. Finished a vest out of Tussah Silk, and then decided that I needed to finish up some of the socks I had started - so I finished up 2 that were partially done and then worked on another one that I had already done one of - only to realize (just as I was finishing the toe) that I had done the first one on size 1 needles and the 2nd one on size 2 needles (OOPS - if anyone wondered if 1 size needle makes a diffference in gauge that was a big wake up call!). Now I have to do the sock all over again. Bummer!!!! And there is so many other things that need to be done too. Oh well.

Have a great week. Enjoy the weather, but don't forget to give yourself a few minutes every day to knit or stitch. You will feel so much better about yourself if you do!!

may 25

Oh, I have been a bad girl about posting. Last weekend I was in Lincoln visiting Jennifer, Tom, and the kids. Heather had her dance recital and we celebrated both kids birthdays! And what would a visit to Lincoln be without a trip to the Omaha zoo!! It is always so hard leaving them. :(

Just a reminder that I will be closed on Monday for Memorial Day.

We said a sad good by to our friend Marsha last night. She is moving to Oklahoma. It will be very lonely without her bubbly personality around. But, as I told her, I am just a phone call away!!

Yep, late again this week. Again, no reason.

I slipped down to Longmont on Thursday afternoon to wish Pat of Main Street Stitcher's Garden a very fond farewell. She closed the shop on Saturday. We will miss her sense of humor at the shop hop meetings and we wish her the best of luck on her move to California. In her closure, I am getting a new front counter! I spent Friday night moving the old counter and cleaning out 16 years of stuff from underneath. Oh my! What a mess of stuff I had stashed. I filled 3 boxes! Now, it will be a while before I can figure out where everything should go and what can be put (thrown) away. I am looking forward to a new counter! (it's the little things....)

Changes, changes, changes. WOW!
Where did it all go?????

Well, everything is still here. Really. If you haven't been in this past week you would think I was missing half the things in the shop. I have completely rearranged the front area when you first walk into the shop. Completely. All the threads have been moved to the former class room and you will find the sale yarns there as well. There is now a "sitting area" in the front area of the shop. Come in, sit a spell, bring your knitting/stitching. A place for a husband or significant other to sit and relaxd while you shop. Comments? "more friendly", "not so overwhelming", "so much space", "amazing". Stop by and check it out!!!

A very special thank you to my wonderful daughter, Jennifer, and her equally amazing husband, Tom, for their help and support in moving everything. I couldn't have done it without you!!

Yes, the kids were here for a few days last week. It was fun having them here. They also spent a few days in Denver and I met up with them in Loveland where Heather and I had a "date" at Disney On Ice Priness Classics. So much fun.....

march 19

What a great week I had! I left on Thursday and traveled to Portland for several events - first and foremost my mom lives there! Within 2 hours of arriving I had accomplished a big goal of mine - getting rid of the 30 years of tax returns that my mom had been "saving for us girls to remember her by when she died". Now, my mom is perfectly healthy and will probably live for a very long time but these tax returns have become kind of a joke in our family. We hauled them up from her crawl space under the house and loaded 7 boxes into the car and took them to Office Depot to be shredded - 100 pounds of tax crap! It was good to get rid of them and now she can start over - hopefully she will not continue to save them up.
On Friday we traveled to my sister's house in eastern Oregon. On Saturday we helped with my niece's baby shower. On Sunday we traveled back to Portland. Sunday evening was the beginning of the Yarn Market News Smart Business Conference. It started with a cocktail party hosted by Lantern Moon. It was great being able to talk to many people from the knitting industry in a relaxed setting. (We also conducted a little business on the side!) Monday and Tuesday morning were business sessions and Tuesday afternoon was a yarn crawl of 5 of Portland's yarn shops (they have 20!) I love this business conference - I always come home full of ideas and remotivated. (watch for lots of changes in the shop!!!!) Tuesday evening I attended a cocktail party at the Pico Accardi Dye Works studio with several of the Portland "knitterati". It was an interesting mix of people and I felt a little out of place, but it was an interesting eveing. Wednesday afternoon Mom and I went to the Lantern Moon warehouse and got a great tour and bought some product before heading to the airport and home.

I have been trying to send an email newsletter for the past 2 days with no luck. The company that does my web site did some updating and I think it screwed up a bunch of things. Hopefully we will get it all corrected today!

I had a wonderful time in Nashville last weekend. When I left there it was 70 and when I got home it was 10. Big temperature difference!!! It was wonderful to see all my favorite designers and meet some new ones. It was great meeting up with my other shop owner friends and catching up on their lives as well. A great weekend! Oh, and I brought home a bunch of new stuff too! All of that has to wait another week though until I can have the pajama party which is next Friday! It is a sold out event!
The Spring Open House will be Saturday, March 5 with an extra busy day as Joanna Johnson will be teaching a class from 10 - 2 on slip stitch knitting from her new book, Freddie's Blanket and then from 2 - 4 she will be doing a book signing on Freddie's Blanket!

february 5

Are you ready for football? At least a Super Sale? Tomorrow (Sunday) is the annual "Big Football Game" Sale. (we are not supposed to use Super Bowl because it is apparently a "copyrighted" name) The preparations are almost complete. The basement has been transformed from a living space to the "bargain basement"! So many things at so little prices! It always gets really crazy right at 1:00 so I would advise waiting just a bit. Some people get frustrated because there isn't room at the table to look through the books. So, save your frustration and come a bit later. There will still be lots of bargains. The sale is from 1 - 4 (or so - I don't kick anyone out at 4!) This is well before the game starts so if you want to see the game and come to the sale you won't miss a thing!

Things are a little lacking in the "new" category this week. All the cross stitch people are waiting for the big Nashville show that will be happening in a couple of weeks.

We lived through the "deep freeze". Wow! That was brutal! After having it be almost spring like and then the bottom dropped out. Must be Wyoming!!

Have a great week! See you at the Super Bowl Sale!

January 29

It's such a beautiful day out today! And the threat of snow and cold again for Monday. :( At least we aren't experiencing the snow levels they are seeing back east!

I sent out an email newsletter on Thursday. If you need information on upcoming events (and there are a lot of them) give me a call. I will try to highlight some of them below:

Sunday - February 6 - That Great Big Football Game (you know, the Super Bowl) Sale - 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. The ony Sunday of the year that I am open. Tons of great items at rock bottom prices. Everything in the shop on sale!

the entire month of February - the trunk show of knitted items from Freddie's Blanket - the newest knitting picture book by Joanna Johnson

Friday - March 4 - Nashville Pajama Party - 6 p.m. - an evening filled with food, class, and all the newest items! Space is limited - $35.00

Saturday - March 5 - Spring Open House (all the newest items will be available)
Joanna Johnson will be teaching You Can Knit Colorwork! In this two-hour class (noon - 2), she will teach you a very easy colorwork pattern and method from her knitting picture book, Freddie's Blanket. If you know how to cast on, knit, and purl, you can learn this super fun technique! Once you have taken this class, you will understand bubble stitch, brick stitch, a whole world of fun mosaic knitting which uses only one color of yarn per row! Space is limited. Cost of class is $25. Some prework needs to be done before class.
Joanna will then be doing a book signing of Freddie's Blanket from 2 - 4 p.m.

january 22

It has been quite a week. I was supposed to go to Laramie Wednesday evening for a meeting to start planning the Yarn Crawl for August, but because of the weather we cancelled the meeting. Better luck next month!
Thursday a big announcement was made from TNNA (The National Needlearts Association) that I am on the Board. In 2013 there is only going to be 1 major trade show instead of the 2 that we have had forever. There is much angst on the part of everyone. It seems they are either in favor or in opposition. No one is in the middle. I think it is a great idea!!!!
Some of the things that I ordered at market have started arriving. So much fun!

january 15

What a wild week (or more) I had in southern California. It was about 60 most days (so warmer than it was in Cheyenne) but cooler than last year when we were there. I flew in on Wednesday, had TNNA Retail Council meeting on Thursday, classes, luncheon & Sample It on Friday, classes, market & meetings on Saturday and Sunday, meetings and market on Monday. When market closed a friend and I helped Debbie from DebBee's Designs tear her booth down and then we all went to dinner. Tuesday was board meetings, Wednesday was board meetings until noonish and then Debbie and I went to the Aquariumm of the Pacific. Left my hotel at 5 a.m. Thursday morning. It was a whirlwind trip. I was really glad to get home. My bed and pillow were calling to me.....
The meetings went very well. There were lots of very hard decisions to be made regarding the needlework industry. Times are hard every where and the trade shows have not been well attended lately. Time to do something different! I just hope that everyone keeps an open mind and doesn't think about themselves only, but the entire industry.
I was able to schedule some very fun events for the future. The first and best is going to happen in February and March. In February I will be hosting a trunk show for "Freddie's Blanket" by Joanna Johnson. Joanna was here in August signing copies of "Phoebe's Sweater" and now the new book is available! Joanna will be here on March 5 to do a simple knitting class and a book signing! Mark your calendars!!!!!
There are lots of other fun things that will be happening, so stay tuned.

Ring in the new year!!!

I hope this message finds you all in good health and ready to tackle a new year (and new projects!)

There will be no post next weekend as I will be in Long Beach at the winter TNNA trade show. It will be my first trade show as an official board member. I have meetings before the show and meetings after the show. I am hoping that all the rain they have had in southern California will be a thing of the past by the time I get there, so I can enjoy a few days of wonderful weather.

There are no new items this week. Everyone is gearing up for the show and the end of the year.

Have a very happy, healthy and prosporous 2011.

december 18

One week until Christmas. (enough said!)

I hope this season of the year brings you much happiness. I know that there are several people in my life that have experienced loss over the past year and will have a difficult time during the holidays. My prayers are with you. I hope that you can put your hurt and anger aside and remember the reason for the season. It will be easier next year.
I have a very quiet holiday planned - in fact so quiet I probably won't even get dressed!! Jennifer, Tom and the kids will be arriving on Sunday for a 5 day visit so I will spend Christmas Day cleaning and putting things away so a certain young man won't get into things!

december 11

Today is the last day to bring in things for framing or finishing in time for Christmas.

The weather is a little chilly today and we had that big snowstorm blow through yesterday late afternoon, but other than that is has been beautiful (well, except for the 40 mph winds!!) I hope the snow put you in the holiday mood!

I have been very busy all week - it is inventory time (again). I have gotten quite a bit already finished up and the girls will be in this next week to finish up. There are some things I can count by myself and there are some things that really require 2 people. I have most of the single stuff done. Yippee!! It is always a good feeling to have that done.
